ABOUT ME |
My name is Nikol Peterská, and I have just graduated the University of Glasgow
with a First Class Joint Honours degree in Economics and Business&Management (MA).
I am starting my further studies in Prague in September 2020 at VŠE FMV.
I have completed this e-Portfolio as a part of the GSP (Graduate Skills Programme), an employability award from the College of Social Sciences at the University of Glasgow. I have completing the e-Portfolio in order to reflect on the skills I have acquired and assess what I lack to become the person I aim for. I am a confident, well-rounded student who aspires to become not only a successful businesswoman but also above all a well-educated person with broad horizons. I am communicative and a natural leader, however, I enjoy supporting roles as well. In this e-Portfolio I will focus on how my extra-curricular activities have helped me develop and enhance my skills such as leadership, communication and resilience. I will depict this by talking about three key incidents, in which I overcame challenges, demonstrated and further developed my skills.
In the Extra-Curricular Activities section, you can read about my experience from taking part in a marketing competition, organizing various events for the Freshers' Week as the President of the Business Club as well as finding new partners for the club.
Below you can also find a link to my LinkedIn profile which provides a structured up-to-date overview of my achievements, internships and other activities.

Professional Summary
When deciding what to study at University, I was torn between several paths as with my grades and test results I could go study anything. I am very good at Maths, but I love History. To put it simply I want to have a broad perspective (it is also something my high school is keen on) and as I am a quick learner, it was not simple to choose a single subject to focus on. I have decided to pursue a career in Business and Social Science subjects because I believe I can use my knowledge from several different fields such there (e.g what I have learned in Psychology and at the same time what I have learned in Math classes). I am also a "people-person" - I enjoy working with people and am generally considered a good leader and teammate. I am currently lured by the idea to work in Human Resources as I have had an internship there, which I found very enjoyable.
I have always enjoyed being involved in various activities and societies. While playing sports such as volleyball and softball is something I am keen on, getting involved in non-sport clubs and societies was something I was looking forward to as a Fresher. I wanted not only to be a member, but also actively contribute to the club. As a first year, I was elected the VP Professional of the University of Glasgow Business Club. As such I was organizing various events and learned how societies work. It was also a nice experience working with students from various years, fields and backgrounds. At the end of my first year, I was elected the President of the Business Club and am currently working on it to flourish. I am also a part of the German and Japanese society where I am trying to enrich my vocabulary in the respective languages and learn about other cultures - just to clarify I speak four languages: Czech, English, Japanese and German.
I have been working as a Student Ambassador at my University since the end of my first year. The work content includes mostly giving tours to prospective students with their parents, helping at graduations and open days. It is necessary to be very communicative and easy to approach. Great presenting skills and fast solving of problems are vital. However, the skill I have developed the most is actually resilience as being easy to approach and smiling after eight hours can be quite demanding. Last summer I have had a great opportunity to see what an actual workplace feels like. I found myself an internship at Alza, in the HR Department. It was an amazing month as I learned much more than I was hoping for. Because my supervisor was an ever-busy person, he was very happy to have someone to share the workload with. I was responsible for the whole selection process for one position and highly involved in other four positions. My working day consisted of LinkedIn headhunting, telephone pre-screening of candidates, phone interviews and face-to-face interviews both in Czech and English. This all among other casual tasks such as sorting through email, inviting people for interviews, translating tests and helping out at assessment centers. With high workload, I had for the first time tried time-management techniques and am practicing them to this day. Although being given guidance, it was also necessary for me to do my own research and function independently from my supervisor. I was also lucky enough to be able to take part in some training sessions aimed at interviewing techniques, at which I learned a lot about behavioral interviewing. At the end of my internship I had successfully filled five positions.
